The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is seeking for qualified candidate to fill the following post:
Background: ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT The Protection Associate normally reports to the Protection Officer/(Statelessness) or the Senior Protection Officer. He/she monitors protection standards, operational procedures and practices in protection delivery in line with international standards and provides functional protection support to information management and programme staff. The Protection Associate is expected to coordinate quality, timely and effective protection responses to the needs of populations of concern, mainly population at risk of statelessness and identify opportunities to mainstream protection methodologies and integrate protection safeguards in operational responses in all sectors. He/she contributes to designing a comprehensive protection strategy and liaises externally with authorities and partners on protection doctrine and policy . The incumbent is expected to support operational activities which will contribute to the prevention/reduction of statelessness including activities relating to issuance of nationality documentation, birth registration and other civil documentation as well as legal aid activities for persons at risk of statelessness; the incumbent is also expected to provide training and organize Workshops on issues related to the reduction and prevention of statelessness for a varied audience including Government officials, Parliamentarians, civil society and affected communities. The Protection Associate also ensures that persons of concern are involved with the Office in making decisions that affect them, whether in accessing their rights or in identifying appropriate solutions to their problems. To achieve this, the incumbent will need to build and maintain effective interfaces with communities of concern, local authorities and protection and assistance partners. |
