 Background:

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :


SFFGC (Sudan Free of Female Genital cutting) Program aims at the abandonment of the FGM practice in Sudan. WHO as a part of the SFFGC joint program is working on reducing the Medicalization rate (FGM performed by Medical Health Providers 39.8 %, SHHS 2010). The main objectives of the program are empowering the target communities and increase their knowledge with focus in building the capacity of the Health Care to establish social movement, with children, adolescents and youth for positive change to end FGM/C. SFFGC program works to identify and support the governmental and nongovernmental actors and structures to generate evidence based data to improve programming and to facilitate social mobilization process for the eradication of the FGM.

The purpose of the post


To provide technical support for the SFFGC (Sudan Free of Female Genital Cutting Program) outputs number one, two, and three in outreach and community work, to sensitize communities to FGC issues and increase community ownership and participation in abandoning this practice. Represent WHO in FGC community outreach work or as delegated by relevant supervisor/s.

Organizational Context:


Under the direct supervision of FGM National Professional Officer and the overall guidance of the WHO FGM Team Leader, the incumbent will work closely with the Federal Ministry of Health and relevant departments, line ministries, Health Organizations,Professional Associations etc. to sensitize communities to FGC issues and increase community ownership and participation in abandoning this practice. S/He will also contribute in the technical meetings related to community interventions at state level and within SFFGC technical meetings.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will perform the following duties:


1.Conduct mapping for actors and existing formal/informal community structure and resources e.g. professional associations, health organizations as well as for community health interventions coverage like community health committees, active advocates and activities in the targeted states in Sudan.
2.Identify partners at locality level and keep track/record of contact information.
3.Establish good relationship and work closely to develop a work plan (with lively engaging activities) to be implemented.
4.Conduct and coordinate workshops/meetings at state and locality level and participate in social mobilization activities.
5.Monitor activities on a daily basis to ensure that implementing body is on track on its plan to meet annual targets
6.Provide and share weekly reports to FGM National Professional Officer.
7.Undertake any other public outreach activities and frequent travel to states with focus on SFFGC states) as assigned.


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education:
Essential: University Degree in Medicine, or Public Health or Health Communication, or Social Sciences.
WHO only considers higher educational qualifications obtained from an accredited institution.

Experience:
Essential: At least 1 year of relevant experience in the field of Public Health.
Desirable:
-Experience in outreach work, community based work in women/girl health, FGM with WHO, UN or International organizations
-Experience in field of project management, Women Health, Social Norm Change, Work experience with Ministry of Health, UN agencies or International Organizations.

 

Languages:

Excellent knowledge of English and local language.
