 Background:

Job Summary

 

  • To operate Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for the purpose of loading/unloading Passenger ,Baggage, Cargo / Mail and Passenger as per engagement standards for each type of service.
  • Timely transportation and delivery of inbound and outbound Baggage, Courier Cargo and Mail for all arriving or departing flights.. 

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Be in procession of a current and valid Airport Driving Permit (ADP) duly endorsed with the type of Equipment authorized to operate/drive.     
  • Operate the duly authorized Ground Servicing Equipment in a safe and controlled environment as described in the relevant Manufacturer’s and Training Manuals.
  • Liaise with the Loading Supervisor on the Equipment requirement on inbound/outbound flights.
  • Upon instructions from Equipment Supervisor ,prepare sufficient type and number of  Equipment ie,ULD Conveyance vehicles, dollies/trolleys required for offloading of an aircraft.
  • Carry out a walk-around inspection of equipment for serviceability check including but not limited to the following:
  • Check for any oil and/or water leakage from the equipment which can be seen, while approaching the equipment.
  • Check the serviceability of all bump rubbers. (not torn or damaged)
  • Check for any sharp pieces protruding from the equipment which could potentially damage an aircraft.
  • Check the brakes (hand-brake) condition, before operating the equipment
  • Check the serviceability of tow-hitch and pin (if fitted).
  • Check the start up and running conditions of equipment well before the arrival of aircraft
  • Appropriately park the Equipment along the Equipment Restraint Lines at the parking bay.
  • Wait for the Aircraft Engines to shut off before moving the equipment towards the aircraft (Flashing aircraft beacon lights indicate that the engines are still running).
  • After the aircraft engines have been shut off and the chocks in place drive the equipment towards the aircraft and stop 50 feet from the aircraft and in line with the service point.
  • Check the brakes and then drive the equipment in first gear with speed not exceeding 5Kmph to approach the service point.
  • Position equipment with adequate clearance to the aircraft at the appropriate point as per instructions outlined in the Manufacturer’s and the relevant training manuals.
  • Ensure that the equipment does not obstruct other service vehicles.
  • Before commencing any activity, check for any visible damage to the Aircraft (Doors & Compartment) and inform the Team Leader , Duty Officer  and the Ground Engineer if any.
  • Open the Cargo door in accordance with the Carrier’s operating instructions contained within the Manuals.
  • Operate the equipment to offload or load the aircraft in accordance with instructions of Loading Agent.
  • Secure the ULDs by raising the locks as appropriate.
  • Once the loading team leader has signaled the end of loading activities, raise the Sill Lock as appropriate and ask the Ground Engineer (where applicable) to check for any damage to the Cargo doors before finally closing the doors.
  • Remove the equipment in an orderly manner and in accordance with the operating manual to the demarcated equipment restraint line and switch off the engine.
  • Report any equipment malfunction to the Equipment Supervisor.
  • GSE should not be driven no faster than walking speed when the equipment is approaching or moving away from the aircraft. The direction of GSE movement around an aircraft, which to the extent possible is typically in a clockwise flow.
  • Check the dollies/trolleys for serviceability of locks/restraints before positioning.
  • Before moving an equipment carrying load ,operators shall ensure that the load is secured from movement by the use of locks, stops, rails, or straps at all times, except when the load is being transferred onto or off the equipment.
  • GSE, when fitted with stabilizers, should be positioned at the aircraft with the stabilizers deployed.
  • Transport and deliver all the inbound baggage to arrival/BMA areas in accordance with the laid-down Service Delivery Standards time and priority order.
  • Transport and deliver the inbound Cargo and Mail to the NASPORT Cargo Warehouse within the laid-down Standards timings.
  • Transport and deliver the inbound Perishable cargo to the Special Storage area at the NASPORT Cargo Warehouse within the specified time.
  • Transport and deliver the outbound baggage units to the aircraft from the various Baggage Makeup areas.
  • As instructed by the Loading Agent, transport and deliver the hand baggage retrieved from pax at boarding gate and brought down to the ramp by porter.
  • Transport and deliver the outbound Courier, Cargo and Mail form cargo warehouse to the respective aircraft for loading.
  • Remove empty ULDs from arrival area immediately after offloading.
  • Clear the parking stand after push back of the aircraft of dollies and trolleys.
  • Transport the unused empty ULDs to the respective ULD yard and the Dollies/Trolleys to the holding area
  • Drive/Operate any type of GSE and  Vehicles as assigned per shift
  • Performs any other related work as assigned by Superior
  • Responsible to comply with the applicable laws, regulations and procedures of NAS and customers
  • Responsible for exercising due diligence towards Health & Safety of self & others in the organization and also environmental protection.
  • Responsible for Safety & Quality of the function/ Task performed.
  • Responsible for reporting to his superiors' occurrences, events, violations and acts that may affect safety, security and company reputation.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Education
  • Completion of Secondary education,
  • Professional Experience
  • 1 years’ experience in ground support services
  • Competencies Required

 

  • Knowledge Airside Equipment Operation
  • Physically and mentally fit to the job
  • Required Licenses/Certifications
  • Equipment Operating License
  • Valid General driving license

•    GSE air side Safety  and airport security   awareness.
