Communication Officer (Consultant)

The World Health Organization, Sudan Office is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the following post:

 Duration: 3 Months with possible extension

 Background:

The objective of WHO's emergency programme are to design and implement programmes that prepares the health sector to deal with emergencies and to improve health during and after the crises.

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will perform the following but are not limited to:

 

To provide support to the overall WHO SUDAN office as follows:

  • Help produce communications materials and media tools, including audio-visual, photographic and printed materials, television and radio programmes. multimedia presentations, videos and press releases, etc., to promote WHO's visibility, achievements and success stories, and advise on their dissemination.
  • Support the development of a network of contacts in the press/media world to ensure and promote the dissemination of information on emergency response and relief efforts, organizing interviews and filming opportunities to support the high-visibility of WHO's humanitarian work through television. radio and newspapers exposure.
  • Update WHO SUDAN websites, monitoring and evaluating their access and critically reviewing and improving contents, architecture and design.

To provide support to the WHO Sudan - Polio/EPI unit as follows:

  • Support the development of outbreak communication strategy and use communication indicators.
  • Social map and social mobilization as part of the national and state level plans and micro plan from the districts.
  • Support the program with social mobilization tools (guidelines, capacity building module).
  • Mass communication plan and media placement plan.
  • Special communication strategies to reach mobile population, including pastoralist groups and high risk areas.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education :

University degree in journalism, communicationms, international relations or social science.

 

Experience:

At least 3 years experience as a journalist or in a media organization (television, radio and / or print), at national or international level, or in an organization involved in information and communications projects and or /or strategies related to humanitarian crises and response relief interventions.

 

Languages

Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and Arabic.
