 Background:

Routine Tasks

1.  On the commencement of your shift you should report to the shift supervisor for your toolbox training and briefing.

2.  A handover must be completed to the oncoming generator operator at the end of your shift.  You are not to leave the generator area until you are relieved by the on-coming generator operator.  On-coming shift to ensure that the generators and surrounding areas are clean, tidy and all trash has been disposed of.

3.  Ensure that the generators are running as per the manufactures instructions and monitor any increase in KVA or current.  All increases need to be dealt with and reported, if cannot be fixed. 

4.  Ensure all generators have enough fuel to run and fill the tanks as required.  There may be instances where the main diesel generator tank is empty and you have to fill using a manual pump from a barrel.

5.  You are responsible for the good housekeeping of the generators and the surrounding areas:       

a. All filters to be disposed off at the burn pit and all old oil to be kept in an old barrel and when full sent to the warehouse for disposal.

b. Ensure that the generators and the surrounding areas are kept clean and tidy and all trash disposed off at the burn pit.

 

Before Starting the Generator, Pre Checks:

a. Check up cooling level, add if required.

b. Check fuel levels, add if required.

c. Check fan belt, tighten if required 

d. Carry visual checks for any leaks

e. Check the pre restriction indicator, clean filter if dirty

f. Check battery condition, is it charged?

g. Check oil pressure and cooling temperature.

6.  Generator running hours are to be to be recorded daily at 07.30 on the daily record sheet and a copy of the hours given to the Warehouse Supervisor.  Ensure that the generators running hours are distributed evenly amongst all three generators to ensure one is not working more hours than the other.

GENERATORS TO BE SERVICED EVERY 200 RUNNING HOURS, (Fuel, oil filters and oil changed at each service). 

7.  Make sure that the second generator is running before the crushing plant is started and turned off when the crushing plant is turned off, liaise with crushing plant operator.

8.  Generator operators do not leave the generator area during shift without the permission of the shift supervisor.

9. Mobile phones, (unless an emergency), MP3 players or similar devices are not to be used during your working shift.

10. Carry out any other reasonable task or request from shift supervisor or management.

 



 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

1)      Diploma or bachelor degree

2)      Experience from 4 to 6 years as a generator operator

3)      Military Service
