UNESCO is seeking for a NATIONAL PROFESSIONAL OFFICER (CULTURE).

Recuritment open to Internal and External candidates.

 Duties and responsibilities:

Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Culture and the direct supervision of the Head of the Office, the incumbent will ensure the design, implementation and coordination of activities carried out under Major Programme IV – Culture in Sudan; He/she will also be responsible for ensuring UNESCO’s contribution to the national Delivering as One exercise in the field of culture by:

  • Ensuring the delivery of the culture programme in Sudan in line with the Culture Sector’s strategies and priorities, particularly for the promotion, preservation and safeguarding of tangible and intangible heritage, the promotion of creative industries and the advancement of the linkages between culture and development.
  • Building, maintaining and enhancing working relations with the concerned national/local authorities, cultural institutions and relevant intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations.
  • Ensuring the required fund-raising in order to reinforce the Regular Programme by mobilizing resources and building partnerships, including with civil society organizations and the private sector.

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree (preferably at Masters or with equivalent relevant professional experience) in the field of culture or social and human sciences.
  •  At least 2-4 years of  experience, in project implementation in the field of Culture.
  •  Proven experience in designing and implementing programme work plans.
  •  Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills; Proven resource mobilization skills;
  •  Experience in designing and implementing policies and programmes;
  •  Familiarity with UNESCO's standard-setting instruments and programmes in the field of culture;
  •  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbally and in writing);
  •  Ability to build, maintain and enhance working relations with national/local authorities, cultural institutions and relevant intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations;
  •  Ability to lead, manage and motivate staff and teams and to maintain effective working relationships in a multicultural environment;
  •  Discretion and maturity of judgement;
  •  Good knowledge of standard office software (word processing, spread sheets, etc.).
  •  Excellent knowledge of English.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Relevant professional training in the field of culture.
  •  Familiarity with the political and cultural context of the region.
  •  Good knowledge of Arabic would be an asset
  •  Knowledge of French would be an asset.

BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS

UNESCO salaries in Khartoum are paid in Sudanese Pounds, exempt from income tax. The annual salary for this post will start from 175,590 SDG. Other benefits include: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance and pension plan.
