 Background:

 

UNESCO Khartoum is a national office within UNESCO’s decentralized field. Education sector is the primary programmatic function of UNESCO Khartoum. The Education Unit's stated priority areas, in broader terms within the One UN context, are educational planning and policy, literacy, inclusive education, TVET as well as education in emergencies and disaster risk management (DRM) in education. UNESCO Khartoum seeks to foster innovative approaches to educational delivery systems in Sudan. Under the direct authority and supervision of the Director of Khartoum office, and guidance from UNESCO regional office for Education for the Arab States in Beirut, the incumbent is expected to bring a strong background and capability in policy and quantitative planning methodologies, as well as adopting a vision integrating education activities with those of other programmatic sectors.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

To perform the following tasks among others:

  • Provide technical support to the Government of Sudan related to education sector particularly with regard to accelerating the achievement of EFA/MDG goals, advocating for the development and enforcement of laws on free and compulsory education for all children, gender equality, inclusive education, ECCE, basic education, TVET, secondary and tertiary education;
  • Ensure timely delivery and reporting of UNESCO Khartoum’s projects and programmes.
  • Articulate and propose strategies for UNESCO intervention and assistance in the field of emerging and innovative educational themes,
  • Prepare and monitor the financial status of regular budget programmes and extra-budgetary projects and ensure financial accountability.
  • Remain well versed about, and contribute to the development of, pertinent strategy papers, technical notes, frameworks and documents related to EFA/MDG and educational development agendas for periods beyond 2015.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education: Master’s degree in education or related field of Social Sciences with emphasis on planning, management, research and monitoring and evaluation. .

 Work Experience: Minimum 4 years of relevant working experience in the field of planning,

management, implementation of projects and programmes in education along with proven ability to manage stakeholders and monitor and evaluate projects and programmes preferably working in UN agencies and/or in other intergovernmental organizations is desirable and will be an asset.
