The Office of the United Nations for the Coordination and Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in the Sudan is seeking for a qualified candidate for the following positions:

 Background:

Background

OCHA Sudan established an integrated Communications and Information Section (CIS), bringing together Data coordination, Visuals, Reporting, Public Information and Translation. The section is responsible for providing information services both internally and externally.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

The selected candidate will work as the GIS Designer within CIS.

1. Management

The GIS Designer will come under the direct supervision of the Head of data coordination and visuals. 

2. Duties and Responsibilities

The GIS Designer will be responsible for: 

  • Produce regular and ad hoc mapping products.
  • Identify and develop all spatial data resources needed to promote OCHA’s work
  • Support coordination of IMWG and other GIS professionals regarding field based GIS solutions, datasets, and projects
  • Contribute to interagency GIS efforts
  • Maintain the Map Shop database and catalogue systems.
  • Ensure the Map Shop meets all client delivery standards.
  • Develop bespoke GIS applications as requested by OCHA management to provide coordination tools for OCHA
  • Liaise with appropriate UN Agencies, NGOs, Donors and government offices regarding geo-spatial data sets, and data standards.
  • Any other duties as may be requested by the Supervisor.

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualifications / Experience

  • Advanced degree (Master Degree) in GIS and any related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of increasingly responsible professional experience, in GIS or a related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of GIS applications (ESRI products), image processing and geo-spatial database.
  • Experience in graphics and web design software: eg. Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office tools (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Visio etc.) is required.
  • Solid experience with the UN and INGOs working in Sudan, as well as humanitarian coordination is essential.
  • Ability to work with a diverse team in a complex environment
  • Fluency in written and spoken English language is essential.
