The Office of the United Nations for the Coordination and Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in the Sudan is seeking for a qualified candidate for the following positions:

 Background:

Background

 

Two years ago, OCHA Sudan established an integrated Communications and Information Section (CIS), bringing together Data coordination, Visuals, Reporting, Public Information and Translation. The section is responsible for providing information services both internally and externally. The selected candidate will work as the GIS/IM intern within CIS. 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

 Management

The GIS/IM intern will come under the direct supervision of the Head of data coordination and visuals. 

  Purpose of the internship and scope of work

The will be expected to work full-time for the duration of two months. During the internship, the following activities are to be completed:

 Support the visuals team in updating the Sudan list of settlements;

  • Support the visuals team in reorganizing the GIS data and files in a user-friendly system;
  • Assist in the production of maps and infographics;

 The intern will be expected to perform other tasks, as required.

 At the end of the internship, the Head of data coordination and visuals will provide full feedback on the job performed, and upon successful completion of the assigned duties, the intern may request a letter of recommendation.

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualifications / Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Information Management or other related field.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a degree program in a graduate school at the time of application and during the internship that is relevant for the internship.
  • Advanced knowledge of ArcGIS.
  • Experience in graphics design software desirable: eg. Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office tools (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Visio etc.) is required.
  • Ability to work with a diverse team in a complex environment
  • Fluency in written and spoken English language is essential.
