 Background:

Under the general guidance and supervision of the Resident Coordinator’s designated Representative in the Darfur Field Office, the driver provides reliable and safe driving services in a security tense environment. The driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact, respect and ability to work in high risk security situations with people from very different backgrounds including militia, humanitarian, private residents, government, etc


 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Summary of Key Functions:  Provision of reliable and secure driving services  Proper use of vehicle  Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle  Availability of documents/ supplies 1. Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving services by a) driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items and b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, 2. Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports. 3. Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc. 4. Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, and map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts. 5. Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents. 6. Ensuring the safety of the vehicle and passengers as far as is possible following UN security guidelines,protocols and procedures contained in the UN’s Security Training module. Periodically updating understanding of procedures needed to manage the current security risks. 7. Collect adequate information to take informed decisions on the road conditions, their security and security generally in the areas of travel, both during a trip and in preparation IV. Impact of Results The key results have an impact on the accurate, safe and timely execution of the service provided by the RCO in Darfur. V.  Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education: Secondary Education. Valid Driver’s license. Experience: 2 years’ work experience as a professional driver; safe driving record; knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in basic vehicle maintenance and fast moving part repairs. Must have driving experience in Darfur under current security conditions over the past 2 years. Must understand the contextual dynamics and locations of key villages and towns of the Darfur State in which s(he) is based. Language Requirements: Fluency in the local languages of the duty station, sufficient knowledge of English to understand requests, read and verbally understand instructions, and communicate.
