Background: UNDP, as the lead agency in recovery and development, has been entrusted by UN System globally with the essential task of supporting national monitoring and reporting on MDGs progress. UNDP is mandated to enhance national capacities for development planning and management, including the capacity for policy analysis, monitoring and evaluation, and coordination. In Sudan UNDP will focus on MDG reporting on national and state levels, promoting MDG-based policies, capacity development of MDG-based strategic planning, and advocacy.
In January 2008, the Ministry of International Cooperation, National Population Council and UNDP agreed to strengthen the partnership to take the lead in supporting MDGs monitoring and capacity development of the Ministry for that exercise. This has led to a birth of a project aiming at capacitating Government Units to effectively and efficiently implement MDG-responsive programs and projects through development and institutionalization of detailed operational mechanisms on MDG monitoring in relevant government units’ using a core indicator monitoring system. Hence, the project will has two major outputs: a) Setting up a mechanism for preparation of Sudan MDG report b) Capacity development of national partners to monitor and track progress towards achievement of MDGs in 2015.
The main national counterpart is the National Population Council (NPC), Ministry of International Cooperation (MIC). Other important actors are the Ministry of Finance and National Economy (MFNE), Ministry of Education (MOE) Ministry of social welfare women & child affairs, the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Strategic Planning Council (NSPC). Furthermore, key line ministries such as the Ministry of health, Ministry of Education, are important players. In Southern Sudan, key relevant institutions such as Southern Sudan Commission for Census, Statistics and Evaluation, Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Ministry of Gender, Social Welfare and Religious Affairs, Ministry of education, Science and Technology and Ministry of Health in addition to relevant state ministries will take a lead in the process. The role of the academia, research centres and civil society organizations are also envisaged in the partnership on MDGs reporting mechanism.
At this stage the relevant stakeholders are involving in preparing the Sudan 2010 MDGR which is planned to be finalized towards end of July 2010. Since the original draft of the MDGR is in English, there is a need for translation into Arabic as the official language for communications particularly in the north. Therefore, it is important that the English version of the report should be translated by a professional Arabic language translator who should professionally ensure a consistent translation that highly consider in language, phrasings and presentations. |

Duties and responsibilities: Duties and Responsibilities
-Translate the entire English version MDGR into Arabic
-Be responsible for checking and correcting spelling, grammatical and sentence structures of the MDGs Report for Sudan;
-Ensure that the translated Arabic version report is smooth and reader friendly and that the technical language used is relevant to the context of the report;
-Provide the Project with professional guidance and with the technical expertise regarding the general report structure and flow of information;
-Ensure that the structure of the sections of the report and its consistent with the contents included in the respective sections
-Ensure that information on the translated report are effectively presented and the citations, of references and resources used for producing the report are accurately reported
-Ensure consistency of tables, figures and graphs from a reader friendly view point.
Deliverables:
•Translating the report all language and presentation errors
•Submit the translated report to the project |

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required: Competencies:
•High level of knowledge of English language
•Excellent analytical skill
•Solid and hands-on practical experience in editing reports
•High report writing and drafting skills
Required Skills and Experience
-A Master’s degree in Arts/Economics or other social science and/or development related studies.
-At least 7 years experience in which involvement in report writing
-Familiarity with MDGs and development related issues and reports
-Strong knowledge of technical skills in desk research and reviews
-Excellent computer skills
-Excellent knowledge of English language |
