UNDP in Southern Sudan is seeking qualified candidates for the following post:

  Background:

In accordance with the comprehensive peace agreement (CPA) and Security Council resolution SC 1590 of March 24, 2005, the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) has been mandated to provide support and assistance to the Government of National Unity (GONU) and Government of South Sudan (GOSS) in planning, developing and implementing the national disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) programme. To this end, an integrated UN DDR unit for the CPA has been established with HQs in Khartoum and field offices in North and South Sudan. In line with the Integrated DDR Standards DPKO is leading the planning and implementation of the D & D components, UNDP -through voluntary contributions- acts as the planning and implementation agency for the reintegration component.

In this regard UNDP is looking for qualified national candidates for the post of Reintegration Officer in the above mentioned location. The incumbent will work on the Reintegration Component of the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Programme and will be pivotal to the implementation of individual-based employment support programs for ex-combatants in CPA areas.


  Duties and responsibilities:

1. The National Reintegration Officer will support the State level DDR Commission and UNDP International Reintegration State Coordinator to plan and implement reintegration activities;
2. Assist in the evaluation of program proposals from implementing partners, and help in designing and formulating MoUs with said implementing partners;
3. Design briefing sessions and written material explaining, in local languages, the program and its objectives to individual participants, host communities, local government, civil society and other stakeholders (public information outreach);
4. Support demobilization at the State level in collaboration with the SSDDRC and UNMIS;
5. Play a pro-active role in keeping Management aware of developments that may affect the reintegration program;
6. Carry out field monitoring, assessments, and conduct research on field based reintegration (social and economic) opportunities, as required by the International Reintegration State Coordinator.
 
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education:

• Bachelor degree in agronomy, agriculture, business, training, management, development studies, or any other relevant field. Masters degree in the above or related field is desirable

Experience:

• 2 years of relevant working experience with prior experience with employment programmes, small business, agriculture training, private sector (trading, agribusiness, food transformation) as well as experience in areas of livelihoods programming for women and/or people with disability will be significant asset.
• Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) with good typing skills in English
• Experience in handling of web based management systems would be an advantage
• Candidates with knowledge and experience in working with communities in Warrap state are preferred
• Fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of at least one local language spoken in Warrap State is desirable. Knowledge of Arabic language would be an asset.
