Background:
In accordance with the comprehensive peace agreement (CPA) and Security Council resolution SC 1590 of March 24, 2005, the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) has been mandated to provide support and assistance to the Government of National Unity (GONU) and Government of South Sudan (GOSS) in planning, developing and implementing the national disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) programme. To this end, an integrated UN DDR unit for the CPA has been established with HQs in Khartoum and field offices in North and South Sudan. In line with the Integrated DDR Standards DPKO is leading the planning and implementation of the D & D components, UNDP -through voluntary contributions- acts as the planning and implementation agency for the reintegration component.
In this regard UNDP is looking for qualified national candidates for the post of case workers in the above mentioned location. The incumbents will work on the Reintegration Component of the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Programme and will be pivotal to the implementation of individual-based employment support programs for ex-combatants in CPA areas.

Duties and responsibilities:
The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Reintegration Officer and National Reintegration Officer, and will perform the following duties:
1. Working in close collaboration and support of the Southern Sudan DDR Commission, incumbents will conduct information and individual face-to-face counselling sessions with DDR participants to gather data and establish their profiles; 2. Enter relevant data into the database and analyze them as requested; 3. Explain to participants the various reintegration options and packages developed by the program and assist them with their selection of a reintegration package; 4. Function as a career counsellor by advising the DDR participants on appropriate reintegration choices that match their profiles; 5. Assist SSDDRC and UNDP colleagues with the development of various reintegration packages. This may entail engaging in the mapping, survey and assessment of labour market and employment conditions of an area to determine absorption capacity and job opportunities in a given region. Visiting prospective implementing partner projects and gathering other data as necessary; 6. Monitor and evaluate the progress of DDR participants in relation to implementation of reintegration packages and social support; 7. Travel to remote locations when requested by his/her supervisor. 8. Assist with any other task requested by his/her supervisor. |

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
Education:
Secondary Education with specialized studies in Teaching, Business Administration or Marketing, Psychology, Sociology, Counselling or any related social science field.
Experience:
• 2-3 years of progressively responsible work experience preferably as a Case worker, Social Worker, Social Counsellor, Community Worker, Teacher or Program Assistant. • Willingness and ability to travel to different States with in Southern Sudan • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) with good typing skills in English • Experience in handling of web based management systems would be an advantage • Candidates with knowledge and experience in working with communities in Warrap State are preferred Language Requirement: Fluency in written and spoken English (ability to express simple ideas in English).Knowledge of at least one local language spoken in Warrap State is a requirement. Knowledge of Arabic language would be an asset. |
