Background: Under the supervison of the Head of the Office, UNESCO Khartoum office, the incumbent shall ensure the qualitative and timely implementation of UNESCO Sudan Programmes in Education in Sudan. |

Duties and responsibilities: The incumbent will coordinate the participation of UNESCO in the various UN programmes by liaising with various UN agencies in Sudan, Government ministries and departments . He/She will monitor emerging national issues and activities of the country and send an information reports on those of interest to UNESCO. He/She should liaise with Programme Specialists at HQ on various issues relevant to their programmes and serve as focal point for all enquiries relating to UNESCO programme activities in Sudan. maintain close liasion with the national commission for UNESCO.
Participate in various theme group meetings on the development and implementation of UNESCO programme in Education. Prepare UNESCO Country Programme Document (UCPD in Education Component) ; Assist in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the joint programming of UN System in Sudan in the UNDAF context.
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Office, he/she will oversee the implementation of education programme activities in Sudan. He/ She will identify project opportunities for UNESCO and Work closely with the education programme specialists at HQ to develop and implement projects in education. Main areas covered: Education For All (EFA), United Nations Literacy Decade, (UNLD), Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD). The incumbent will also provide programme support in early childhood education, special need education, HIV/AIDS and education, technical and vocational education and training..
The incumbent will occasionally be given assignments in Sudan to promote the visibility of UNESCO in the country. Such assignments may include participation on behalf of the Head of the Office, in meetings/ workshops and other joint UN activities.
Nature of work:
• The posts contributes intellectually to developing organisational programmes and plans that are evidence-based and providing technical/advisory assistance to Sudan within the Organization's mandate, particularly in its phase of Education Reform after several years of conflicts.
Enabling Environment:
The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the Office with regard to the ED programme implementation; the posts requires minimum supervision.
Partnership:
The incumbent will interact with the following colleagues in UNESCO: Head of the Office, AO and other Project personnel of UNESCO Sudan; UNESCO National Commission in Kigali. These contacts will be used for public information and updates on programme activities. He/ She will also be required to make contacts with UNDP, World Bank, ILO, UNIFEM, UNICEF and members of the donor community in Sudan in order to present UNESCO programmes with a view of getting financial support or partnership for joint projects.
Impact of Results:
Decision-making will be done in collaboration with the supervisor. A team approach will be adopted for the work and decision-making processes. The incumbent will always refer to the Head of the Office and/or Programme Specialists in ED Sector at HQ for guidance. |

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required: Functional Competencies:
Familiarity with the work and functioning of the UN Country team in Sudan, knowledge of UNESCO's programmes and priorities is an asset.
Excellent communication skills including presentation and drafting.
Ability to use personal computers for communication, networking and document preparation.
University degree preferably Masters or equivalent in education or related field e.g economics or development studies, sociology.
At least four years of relevant professional experience in the development, planning and implementation of national educational systems and or educational programmes. Experience working with UN agencies, multilateral donors and national authorities would be an advantage.
Fluency in English and Arabic. |
