Generalist Field Officer

 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organization striving to protect and assist the victims of war and other situations of violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person for the following position: Generalist Field Officer based in PORT SUDAN covering Central Sudan including Khartoum and Al Gezira states. 

 

Purpose: 

The Generalist FO directly reports to the Head of Sub-Delegation (HoSD) in Port Sudan. S/he Contributes to defining, implementing and monitoring ICRC projects and activities (depending on the context: General management, protection, cooperation, communication and others)in coordination with the structures management, and to representing the ICRC at local/national level.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Supports the Head of Sub-Structure in networking with relevant leaders and organizations in the area(s)covered.
  • Monitors the humanitarian environment and needs.
  • Analyses the security, socio-economic, cultural and political environment as relevant to the ICRC (regional/national/local level). Shares pertinent information with colleagues and reports any changes in the situation.
  • Participates in and holds internal and external meetings and develops and maintains contacts with municipal/regional authorities, local/regional Red Cross/Red Crescent Society branches, non-governmental organizations (local and international) and the population.
  • Is responsible for implementing and evaluating relevant activities and adapting supporting tools within the geographic or thematic area covered, including operational communication, community engagement, public communication.
  • Follows political, security, military and humanitarian developments,
  • Supports the Sub-structure on internal communication issues.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent higher education degree in a humanitarian area, socio-economic development, humanitarian law, human rights or equivalent field Postgraduate or master’s degree is an asset.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in a humanitarian field, socio-economic development, humanitarian law, human rights, project management or similar position
  • 3-4 years as manager or program officer in similar fields or other organizations or governmental structures, ideally including 2-3 years with the ICRC.
  • Excellent command of Arabic &English, spoken and written
  • Expert level in computer skills
  • Skilled in the following competencies: Networking &Communication; Adapting & Learning; Responsibility & Autonomy; Communication (ability to express views and ideas); Analysis & Synthesis; Security Management.
