 Background:

The Business Development Specialist will be responsible for the identification of new funding opportunities, donor pre-positioning, and support of new business development, including designing and writing concept notes and proposals, in close coordination with the Program Coordinators, sector specialists, and Program Managers. The Business Development Specialist will also lead in summarizing the compliance requirements of grants issued under each donor and communicating these requirements to the program teams.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research on humanitarian needs, donor priorities, and funding opportunities to identify potential areas for program expansion and growth.

 

  • Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, government agencies, and other humanitarian organizations to secure funding, partnerships, and collaborations for program implementation.

 

  • Proposal Development: Lead the development of grant proposals, concept notes, and project plans to secure donor funding and ensure alignment with the organization's mission and strategic priorities.

 

  • Fundraising and Donor Relations: Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including setting targets, identifying potential funding sources, and monitoring progress towards fundraising goals. Utilize data and analytics to assess the effectiveness of fundraising efforts and adjust as needed to maximize financial support for humanitarian programs.
  • Organize donor meetings and engage in donor stewardship activities to secure financial support for humanitarian programs and initiatives.

 

  • Program Design and Implementation: Work closely with program teams to design and implement new initiatives, projects, and partnerships that address the needs of vulnerable populations and contribute to the organization's humanitarian impact.

 

  • Advocacy and Partnerships: Build partnerships with local communities, civil society organizations, and government agencies to advocate for policy changes, raise awareness of humanitarian issues, and mobilize support for the organization's advocacy efforts.

 

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Oversee the monitoring and evaluation of business development activities, track program impact, and use data to inform decision-making and improve program effectiveness.

 

  • Cross-Cutting Issues: Ensure that business development activities are aligned with the organization's commitment to gender equality, protection, and inclusion, and integrate these principles into program design and implementation.

 

  • Reporting and Compliance: Prepare reports for donors, government agencies, and other stakeholders, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and transparency in financial management.

 

  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development of organizational strategic plans, identify opportunities for growth and innovation, and provide input on long-term business development strategies to advance the organization's mission and vision.

 

  • The business development specialist may also be involved in exploring private sector fund opportunities and commercial contract methodologies to diversify funding sources for the organization. This could include identifying potential corporate partners, developing strategic partnerships, and negotiating commercial contracts to support fundraising efforts and achieve financial sustainability. 

 

  • Maximizing Financial Resources: Leverage expertise in business development to play a crucial role in maximizing the organization's financial resources and achieving financial sustainability through diversified funding sources and strategic partnerships.

 

  • Strategic Partnerships and Negotiations: Identify potential corporate partners, develop strategic partnerships, and negotiate contracts to support fundraising efforts and achieve financial sustainability for the organization.

 

  • Financial Sustainability: Contribute to the financial sustainability of the organization by diversifying funding sources, developing strategic partnerships, and negotiating commercial contracts to support fundraising efforts.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Essential

  • A master's degree in business administration, International Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development or fundraising for a humanitarian organization.
  • Strong understanding of cross-cutting issues such as gender equality, protection, and inclusion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Fluency in English (additional languages are a plus).
  • Ability to travel as needed.
